Hidden gem alert! Okay, it’s not that hidden because it sits right on the corner of Grand Avenue and Valdez in downtown Oakland. I say it’s hidden because it’s a small place but it packs a punch!
I went to Alamar with my good girl friend Kaila on a Wednesday evening. WEDNESDAY! LOL! To our surprise it was a huge turnout for a midweek social event at Alamar. I have never been there before and spent the entire night wondering what I have been doing! Or, where have I been going?!
The bar was packed with 20-30 somethings hanging out, networking, and enjoying good music by “Oakhella”. Everyone was really friendly and the staff was professional but easy going. Kaila and I decided to start the night with a Mango Margarita and good ol’ tater-tots. Let me tell you!!! That was the best Margarita I’ve had in my life. Honestly, I would have been just fine with the juice! It was that good. The tots were bomb too, fried to perfection. (I don’t know why mine never taste like that!)
We decided to sit outside because it was so packed inside. It’s a small joint, but they do have quite a bit of seating. Outside groups of friends mingled and played UNO! Yes, UNO. I love The Bay. Eventually we made our way inside and enjoyed the party while we had one more margarita.
Alamar closes at 10p during the week, but that didn’t stop us from having some fun in the bathroom hallway before they stopped the music! Watch our video below!
I would recommend Alamar if you’re in the downtown Oakland area if you want an intimate spot for good drinks and food. I can’t wait to go back, but maybe on a quieter night for dinner because I’m and old lady. Kidding!
